§ UTSA/CIAS provided affordable "bootcamp" training and scholarships, to increase the numbers of individuals with cyber/cyber security professional certifications, doubling the number in less than three years.

§ They identified and promoted the Air Force Association's CyberPatriot program, as an opportunity to identify schools and individuals interested in cyber security and recruited 21 San Antonio area teams to compete in the 2010-2011 Cyber Patriot III competition.

§ They identified volunteer mentors to assist team coaches and students and organized the San Antonio Mayor's Cyber Cup competition and awards luncheon to recognize and reward local teams.

§ The winning team, from the Information and Technology Security Academy - a magnet school which provides dual-credit college hours, requires internships, and promotes professional certifications - went to the CyberPatriot III National Championship taking 3rd place in the Open Division.

§ 24th Air Force then hired the entire ITSA CyberPatriot III team as interns, working in the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team operations center, during the summer of 2011.

§ Their effort encouraged legislation establishing the Texas Cybersecurity, Education, and Economic Development Council tasked to provide recommendations to strengthen Texas cyber infrastructure, academic programs, and economic development efforts.

§ In 2011, working with the Air Force Association, Alamo Chapter they recruited 36 San Antonio area teams for CyberPatriot IV, identified more than 60 mentors, and held three clinics sharing lessons learned and technical instruction for coaches and team members.

§ In 2012, they recognized local CyberPatriot IV teams, presented the San Antonio Mayor's Cyber Cup, and other prizes and academic scholarships to their top three teams, students, and coaches. Two of their teams went to the CyberPatriot IV National Championship.

§ They host an annual Cyber Security Caucus Summit, including congressional leaders in cyber security and cyber/cyber security leaders from the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, and the White House, in conjunction with the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.

§ According to Computerworld magazine, San Antonio is #2 in information assurance, second only to Washington, DC. They've built an outstanding team of community volunteers working together to leverage CyberPatriot and promote cyber security.
