Hardware Requirements
The following are the hardware requirements for CyberPatriot IV:
- 1 Ghz Intel x86 compatible processor (2+ Ghz dual-core or better with virtualization extensions recommended)
- 2 GB of RAM
- 20 GB of free disk space
- DSL or faster Network connection
- XGA (1024x768) or higher display (Projector to allow all students to see display recommended)
- Windows 2000 or later, OS X 10.4.11 or later, Linux 2.4.10/2.6.4 or later
- ZIP Client capable of handling encrypted ZIP files
- VMware Player (for Windows or Linux), VMware Fusion (for OS X)
In order to participate in CyberPatriot, your host system MUST be able to run VMware Player 5.0. Some host systems will appear to conform to the above requirements, but are still unable to run VMware Player 5.0 (e.g. some older Celeron processors that meet the speed requirement). If you are not sure whether your system is capable of running VMware Player 5.0, please refer to the VMware Player Documentation.
There will be up to three images for a single competition round. As such, we recommend that you have one host computer per competition image to allow students to work on all images at the same time.
Network Requirements
The most common difficulty encountered by teams during competition is having their traffic blocked by a school firewall. All teams will need unrestricted access to HTTP and HTTPS traffic (ports 80 and 443 respectively) to participate in CyberPatriot. Please contact the CP staff if you have questions.
Preparing for Round 1 and Round 2
If you are unsure of how to prepare your host system for the CyberPatriot competition, please refer to the following user guides:
